Laura Hopkins works out of her studio at the Velvet Mill in Stonington, CT. Much of her work is abstract and plays with rich color and texture. Laura draws inspiration from the natural world and her most recent work reflects her coastal environment. Originally from Buffalo, she has roots in Seattle and San Francisco and has called Connecticut home for the last three years. Laura’s work has been exhibited in local galleries in Mystic and has been included in group shows in Seattle, Buffalo, and Stonington.

Hopkins studied fine art at Vassar College and trained at San Francisco’s Academy of Art College.  She also mentored under Jeff Hengst in Seattle. Her art is privately collected in Seattle, in the Bay Area, and locally.

Artist Statement:

My abstract work is grounded in the sky, the sun, rocks, trees and the distant horizon. Focusing on physical elements provides a touchstone that allows me to explore and express my inner world.
